In this article, we provide an overview of all the changes and a complete list of holidays for 2026, as well as an updated list of days on which the ban on retail sales will apply.

On 1 November 2025, an amendment to Act No. 241/1993 Coll. on Public Holidays, Days of Rest and Memorial Days takes effect, bringing fundamental changes as to which days will be working days from 2026 and which will remain days of rest.

The amendment mainly changes the number of days of rest, which has an impact on employees, employers, retailers and the planning of working time.

1. The most important changes from 1 November 2025

Some public holidays cease to be days of rest, which means that these days will be ordinary working days.

The changes concern the following holidays:

• 15 September – Our Lady of Sorrows

→ from 2026, no longer a day of rest

• 8 May – Victory over Fascism Day

• 17 November – Struggle for Freedom and Democracy Day
